About NASCAR

NASCAR was founded by Bill France, Sr. in 1948 in Daytona Beach, FL. France felt like people enjoyed watching stock cars race. He originally wanted to go with the name “National Stock Car Racing Association” but the name was taken so he went with “National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing” or NASCAR. The first NASCAR “Strictly Stock” race was at Charlotte Speedway in 1949. The first NASCAR race held outside the US was in Canada in 1952. The NASCAR cup series is the highest level of professional competition. The series season consists of 36 races over 10 months. Each year NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 states as well as Europe, Canada, and Mexico. Their headquarters are in Daytona Beach, FL.
