About Marriott Hotels

Marriott Hotels was founded in 1927 by J. Willard Marriott and his wife in Washington D.C.  They started with a root beer stand and then opened their first hotel, the Twin Bridges Marriott Motor Hotel in Arlington, Virginia in 1957.

In 1976 they opened two amusement parks, Marriott’s Great America in the Chicago and San Francisco areas, but they sold them in 1984. In 2016, they merged with Starwood and are the largest hotel chain in the world. They now have 30 brands with more than 8,000 properties in 130 countries and territories all over the world, and their headquarters are in Bethesda, Maryland.

Marriott includes the Sheraton, Delta Hotels, LeMeridien, Westin, Design Hotels, Gaylord Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield by Marriott, and more.

They also offer long-term housing for TDYs and PCSs at the Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, and Marriott Executive Apartments.
