About Joann
Jo-Ann started back in 1943 when a German immigrant couple and their friends opened a store selling imported cheese. In 1960, they added fabric and then discontinued the cheese in 1967. They then began operating as Cleveland Fabrics and then changed to Jo-Ann in 1969 combining the names of the daughters in the two families. They acquired Cloth World in 1994, and the House of Fabrics in 1998. They changed their name to Jo-Ann in 2018 in order to encompass more crafts with their stores. They have over 865 stores, in 49 states, with no stores in Hawaii. Their headquarters are in Hudson, OH.
