About IHG Hotels

IHG can be traced back to 1777 when William Bass established the Bass Brewery in Burton-upon-Trent.

In 1876, its red triangle logo was the first-ever trademark registered in the UK. In 1969, Bass Charrington launched the Crest Hotel Chain which was its first entry into the lodging industry. In 1946, Juan Trippe, founder of Pan American Airways, established the Intercontinental Hotels chain as a division of Pan Am in Brazil. In 1981, Pan Am sold the company.

After a few more ownership changes, IHG was created in 2003, with IHG focusing on hotels and drinks. Today, they have around 5,600 hotels in over 100 countries and many military locations.
