American Airlines became American Airways via a union when over 80 small airlines merged together in 1930, and re-named American Airlines in 1934. American Airlines offers special military discount fares and a free bag benefit. 

What is the American Airlines military discount?

American Airlines offers government or military discount fares in certain markets.  You will need to contact reservations at 1-800-433-7300 for information on this discount.

Do military passengers receive free bags on American Airlines?

Yes, when traveling on a military fare.  If not traveling on a military fare, you may show your military ID to receive free bags.

Who’s eligible for the military discount at American Airlines?

Active duty military and their dependents.  

American Airlines defines “Active U.S. military personnel” as any member of the U.S. armed forces (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy and Space Force) in an active status, (Cadets are included).
